American author and activist Helen Keller once said, “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.”
This certainly rings true for the HCA Charity Golf 2018, which was a collective work of love by numerous individuals and corporations. From the flight sponsors to donors and volunteers, it was a major fundraising effort made possible by a common heart to enable HCA to provide compassionate care to people with life-limiting illnesses in the comfort of their own homes.
This year, HCA sold 32 golf flights and raised a total of $250,000 through both flight sponsorships and auction sales. The overwhelming response to our appeal was certainly uplifting.
Held on 20 September 2018, 143 golfers gathered on the green at Singapore Island Country Club for a day of camaraderie and fun.

The adrenaline on the green continued well into the night, with an evening programme that included performances and a live auction. The performances, which added an exhilarating touch of song and dance to the evening, were undertaken by volunteers. One of the performers is cancer survivor Jack Tan, 57, who has been volunteering with a number of charity organisations by performing at events.

“Performing for HCA Charity Golf 2018 has been an unforgettable experience,” Jack says. “The applause was very encouraging, and made my contribution for a charitable cause even more meaningful.”

Mr Andrew Kwek, Chairperson of the Organising Committee also gave a speech in which he thanked the sponsors and the members of the organising committee for their support and dedication.

On HCA’s upcoming 30th anniversary next year, he said, “In the past 30 years, we have been guided by the same vision: to be the centre of excellence for home hospice care.”
“In the next decade and beyond, we will continue to strive for excellence, to extend the touch of compassion to even more patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families.”

Indeed, our work till date would not have been possible without the unwavering support of donors, volunteers and partners. It is our hope that we will continue to receive such tremendous support, so that we can make compassionate and professional palliative care accessible to everyone.
