There was a distinct air of excitement as shouts of “Lelong! Lelong!” filled the “marketspace” at HCA Hospice (HCA) auditorium. Nurses in their pink uniforms, together with the non-clinical staff, dished out bowls of mouthwatering home cooked delights.

The inaugural HCA Fundraising Bazaar was initiated by CEO, Ms Angeline Wee, who shared, “Every person in HCA, both clinical and non-clinical staff share an equal responsibility in upholding the home hospice cause. Thus, while we rely on the generosity and kindness of our donors, we also need to be role models in practicing what we preach.”
The fundraising bazaar was held on 29 January, from 11am to 1pm, where more than $5,500 was raised for HCA’s beneficiaries. This included a matching contribution by CEO herself.
CEO, Ms Wee joins in the fundraising event with a stall selling premium wines and hand-drawn Zentangle artwork.
The bazaar uncovered many hidden talents in HCA. One of which, includes CEO Ms Angeline Wee who produced beautiful art pieces using the Zentangle art, an abstract, patterned drawing method.
The Admin Team offered a range of home-made goodies
Homemade Achar and yam cake were popular items at the Admin stall.

Others also made sure to put their “best food” forward. Kang Le Day Care Attendant, Josephine started preparations for her handmade Otah at 4am. Jo (as she prefers to be called) is a veteran when it comes to making Otah, having perfected the recipe more than 20 years ago.
The Psychosocial Team (PSS) sharing a splice of the good old days
The Kacang Puteh men from the Psychosocial Services (PSS) team gamely dressed to the theme, donning on sarongs and handed out kacang-filled paper-cones.
A wholesome breakfast put together by the IT Team, comprising sandwiches and coffee

Something old, something new
The HR team pulled together a fun and engaging “Upcycling Workshop” to repurpose greeting cards into gift boxes.

We are thankful to the artistic students from School of the Arts, Singapore who generously donated their handicrafts, creatively pieced together using coloured corrugated cardboard.

The fundraising event saw guests dropping by from Dover Park Hospice, National Skin Centre and Tan Tock Seng Hospital to lend their support.

“I was touched by everyone’s hard work and participation. The effort put into the preparations, selling and supporting their fellow colleagues’ products was very encouraging,” Ms Wee shares with delight. “Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves and the spirit of team work was evident in the camaraderie amongst the respective departments. We were even happier when our neighbours from the vicinity popped by to support us as well. It’s great to be able to experience such wonderful ‘kampong spirit’!”
Indeed, a team that fundraises together, stays together
Would HCA organise another fundraising event as such? “Definitely. I would like to make this an annual event and hopefully invite our patients next year to join in the fun, food and games, free of charge, of course!” says Ms Wee with anticipation in her voice.
