The Dandelion Ride

A bike ride is akin to life’s journey – we never quite expect what lies ahead. Sometimes, we are greeted by beautiful scenery; at times, perilous potholes that seemingly present insurmountable challenges.

But the support we receive along the way imbues us with the courage and hope to persevere – and it is the same spirit of the community that characterises The Dandelion Ride 2019.

The Dandelion Ride was organised as part of HCA’s 30th anniversary celebrations, to raise $300,000, which will fund 1,000 home visits to provide care for patients with life-limiting illnesses.

There was a strong sense of camaraderie among the riders, as they looked out for one another on the roads.

The inaugural event encompassed a 30km route that traverses the central region of Singapore, including sites of interest such as the Marina Barrage and the Singapore Botanic Gardens.

A Community Effort

The Dandelion Ride was supported by 107 riders, which included seven informal and corporate groups, consisting of like-minded individuals who banded together to raise funds for HCA.

Despite the early flag-off time of 6am, the riders, volunteers and staff alike turned up in full force to support the event, which has raised more than $250,000 to date.

Rider and HCA Star PALS Palliative Care Nurse Poh Ya Nee sums up the spirit of the event best: “I often tell myself to be courageous, to be prepared for uncertainty – all challenges can be overcome in the same way.”
