HCA Hospice Care is sole beneficiary for Sentosa Kidz Flea 2013
13 March 2014

HCA Hospice Care would like to express its deepest gratitude to Blangah Rise Primary School and Sentosa Development Corporation for making HCA Hospice Care the sole beneficiary for the Sentosa Kidz Flea 2013, held 16-24 March 2013.Funds raised from the event will go a long way in supporting HCA Hospice Care in realising its commitment to add life to the final days of its patients, enabling them to live pain-free and with dignity. In addition to medical care, HCA Hospice Care also provides essential training and psychosocial support to patients’ family members and caregivers.

Blangah Rise Primary School is one of many schools participating in the Young Caregivers Programme, a student outreach arm of HCA Hospice Care dedicated to educating youths and students on issues pertaining to eldercare, hospice and palliative care.”Our school believes in cultivating future social entrepreneurs who are joyful, confident and caring,” says a spokesperson from the school. “To achieve this, we have collaborated with Sentosa Development Corporation on Sentosa Kidz Flea, an innovative project and flea market designed for and targeted at aspiring young entrepreneurs.”

“Our Primary Four students were given special training which included marketing skills and how to organise and operate their own small businesses selling home-made and recycled materials,” he says. “In addition, the children also learnt to be mindful of social needs and to be actively involved in making a difference to the people they care for.”This is the second year that Sentosa Development Corporation is collaborating with the school and it is encouraged by the positive response received so far.

The donation will support HCA Hospice Care’s holistic palliative care practice which serves more than 3,500 patients each year. Over 49,000 patients have benefited from HCA Hospice Care’s services since its establishment in 1989.

The little ‘bosses’ learnt empathy and social responsibility by donating their proceeds to HCA Hospice Care.
